Segundamanopc’s commitment to business ethics and the environment

Technology is part of virtually every area of our lives: work, education, administration, communication and leisure. But it also involves the consumption of materials and energy, as well as the generation of waste.

At Segundamanopc, we believe that technology can be used in a more responsible way. Our work with refurbished equipment is based on a simple idea: a device that can still be useful does not need to be taken out of use prematurely.

That is why our commitment is not limited to offering computers at a more affordable price. It is also connected to reuse, extending the useful life of equipment, transparency with our customers and a more conscious approach to technology consumption.

What do we mean by more responsible technology?

Talking about sustainability in technology does not mean claiming that a product or company has no environmental impact.

Every electronic device requires resources for its manufacture, transport, use and treatment at the end of its useful life.

What we can do is look for ways to make better use of existing equipment for longer.

This is where refurbishment plays an important role.

When a computer, laptop, monitor or other device can be inspected, prepared and used again, there is an opportunity to extend its useful life instead of immediately replacing it with a new device.

Refurbishment as part of the circular economy

The circular economy model aims to keep products, components and materials in use for as long as possible.

In technology, this can be achieved through different strategies:

• Reuse.
• Repair.
• Refurbishment.
• Component upgrades.
• Redistribution of equipment.
• Recycling when continued use is no longer possible.

The aim is, wherever possible, to avoid using a product for a relatively short period and then discarding it even though it may still be capable of providing useful service.

This approach is also aligned with European policies aimed at improving the collection, reuse, repair and refurbishment of electronic devices.

Extending the useful life of devices

A computer does not automatically stop being useful because a company has renewed its IT fleet or because a new generation of processors has been released.

Many professional devices can remain suitable for years for tasks such as:

• Office work.
• Administration.
• Remote working.
• Studying.
• Web browsing.
• Business management.
• Certain professional applications.

Refurbishment makes it possible to assess this equipment and return devices to the market when they can still meet the needs of another user.

This does not mean keeping every device in service indefinitely. Its age, compatibility, efficiency and condition also need to be taken into account.

The idea is simple: keep using technology for as long as it still makes sense to do so.

Reducing electronic waste starts before recycling

When we talk about electronic waste, recycling is often the first thing that comes to mind.

However, there are other possibilities before reaching that stage.

If a device can continue working correctly after being inspected or refurbished, extending its useful life delays the point at which it ultimately becomes waste.

The European Commission also places reuse, repair and refurbishment among the strategies aimed at improving the circularity of phones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices.

Responsible consumption does not mean avoiding technology at any cost

Technology is a tool and, in many cases, it is essential.

The goal should not be to avoid every purchase, but to choose the right device for each requirement.

A user who only needs web browsing, documents and video calls probably does not require the most powerful computer on the market.

Likewise, a professional working with design, engineering, virtualisation or large volumes of data will need a more advanced configuration.

Buying responsibly means considering your actual use before deciding:

• Which processor you need.
• How much RAM your work requires.
• How much storage is sufficient.
• Which connections you need.
• How many years you expect to use the device.
• Whether an earlier generation can meet your needs perfectly well.

Saving money can also be part of more efficient consumption

Sustainability is not the only reason to buy refurbished.

For many users, the main reason is simply financial.

A refurbished device can cost less than an equivalent new product or make it possible to access professional-grade equipment within the same budget.

This can be particularly useful for:

• Students.
• Families.
• Freelancers.
• Small and medium-sized businesses.
• Educational institutions.
• Public administrations.
• Companies that need to equip multiple workstations.

Saving money and reusing technology are not conflicting objectives. In many cases, they can form part of the same purchasing decision.

Transparency: an essential part of selling refurbished technology

Trust is particularly important when buying refurbished technology.

A customer needs to understand what they are buying, not simply see an attractive price.

That is why we believe it is important to provide enough information to assess:

• The exact model.
• The technical specifications.
• The generation of the equipment.
• Its condition.
• Warranty conditions.
• Return conditions.
• Included accessories.

A refurbished product should not be sold as though it were automatically identical to a new one. What matters is explaining clearly what product is being offered and under what conditions.

Business ethics: beyond the product

A responsible business is not defined only by what it sells.

How it works with customers, suppliers, employees and partners also matters.

At Segundamanopc, principles such as honesty, responsibility, professionalism and transparency should form part of our relationship with the people who place their trust in us.

This includes avoiding unrealistic promises, providing accurate information about products and looking for solutions that genuinely meet the customer’s needs.

Training and experience for new professionals

Business responsibility can also extend to people’s professional development.

At Segundamanopc, we work with students undertaking work placements, providing an environment where they can gain experience and learn about areas related to technology, e-commerce, management and business.

At the same time, bringing young talent into the workplace contributes new perspectives, ideas and knowledge.

Practical training can therefore become a mutually beneficial relationship for both students and the company.

A second life for professional equipment

A significant part of the refurbished market comes from equipment previously used in professional environments.

Companies and organisations regularly renew their IT infrastructure for different reasons: standardisation, new internal requirements, contract renewals or technological changes.

This does not necessarily mean that the replaced equipment has stopped working.

When these devices can be properly inspected and prepared, they may still be useful to other users and begin a new stage of their working life.

Reuse is not everything: knowing when to replace matters too

Supporting longer product lifespans does not mean keeping every device running indefinitely.

There are situations where replacing equipment may be the most reasonable decision:

• When the hardware can no longer run necessary software.
• When it stops receiving important updates.
• When its energy consumption is disproportionate to its use.
• When repairs are no longer economically reasonable.
• When it no longer provides the required performance.

Sustainability also means making balanced decisions rather than keeping obsolete technology in use at any cost.

Our role in a more circular technology model

Segundamanopc operates in a sector whose purpose is precisely to recover value from equipment that has already been manufactured.

We sell refurbished technology because we believe there is a space between always buying new and using a device until it completely stops working.

That space makes it possible to inspect, reuse and redistribute equipment that can still provide many years of service.

We cannot eliminate the environmental impact associated with technology, but we can contribute to making better use of resources and extending the use of existing devices.

What can consumers do?

Responsibility does not depend solely on manufacturers, distributors or public authorities.

There are also simple decisions that any user can make:

• Buy according to actual needs.
• Do not automatically replace a device that still works.
• Consider repair when it makes sense.
• Consider refurbished equipment.
• Maintain devices properly.
• Reuse, sell or donate equipment you no longer use.
• Recycle devices correctly when they genuinely reach the end of their useful life.

Segundamanopc: technology designed to keep working

At Segundamanopc, you can find desktop computers, laptops, workstations, monitors, Apple devices, printers and other refurbished equipment for private customers, professionals and businesses.

Our aim is to help you find a configuration that meets your needs without necessarily having to choose a completely new device.

You can also review the current shipping, financing, warranty and return conditions before making your purchase.

For us, moving towards more responsible technology means making better use of what already exists, providing transparent information and offering alternatives that combine usefulness, savings and longer device lifespans.
