What are Apple Certified Refurbished products?

When looking for a refurbished iPhone, iPad, Mac or other Apple device, you may come across the term Apple Certified Refurbished. This is not simply another way of describing any used or refurbished Apple product.

Apple Certified Refurbished is Apple’s own certified refurbishment programme, in which devices go through a specific inspection, testing and preparation process before being put back on sale.

This makes it possible to buy certain Apple devices below their original price while benefiting from refurbishment conditions defined directly by Apple.

What does Apple Certified Refurbished mean?

Apple uses this term for refurbished products that have completed its own certification process.

According to Apple, every certified refurbished product undergoes full functional testing as well as an inspection and cleaning process before being put back on sale.

When a component needs to be replaced, Apple states that genuine Apple replacement parts are used.

An Apple Certified Refurbished product should therefore not be confused with any Apple device refurbished by a third-party retailer or specialist company. Both may be refurbished, but the Certified Refurbished label refers specifically to Apple’s own certification process.

How does Apple refurbish its products?

The exact process can vary depending on the type of device, but Apple states that its certified refurbished products go through several stages before being sold again.

Full functional testing

The device is tested to check that its functions operate correctly.

Inspection and cleaning

Apple carries out an inspection and cleaning process before preparing the product for resale.

Replacement of components when necessary

If a component needs to be replaced during the refurbishment process, Apple states that it uses genuine Apple replacement parts.

Operating system and accessories

Devices are supplied with the appropriate operating system, together with the accessories and cables specified for the product.

New packaging

Apple Certified Refurbished products are repackaged in a brand-new white box.

Do Apple Certified Refurbished products come with a new battery?

This is one of the points that raises the most questions.

Apple specifically states that its refurbished iOS devices come with a new battery and a new outer shell.

This is particularly relevant because batteries are among the components that experience the most wear in mobile devices.

However, this should not be treated as a general rule for every refurbished Apple product sold outside Apple’s official programme. It is a specific feature of the Apple Certified Refurbished process.

What warranty comes with Apple Certified Refurbished products?

Apple Certified Refurbished products include Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty.

Apple also allows additional coverage through eligible AppleCare products, depending on the device.

This is one of the main differences compared with buying a used Apple device directly from a private seller, where warranty conditions may be very different.

Does Apple Certified Refurbished mean the product is new?

No.

An Apple Certified Refurbished product should not be confused with a completely new product.

It may, for example, come from a return or may have been used previously before entering Apple’s refurbishment process.

The difference is that it subsequently goes through the testing, inspection, cleaning and preparation procedures established by Apple before being put back on sale.

Apple Certified Refurbished vs a standard refurbished Apple product

Not every refurbished Apple product belongs to the Apple Certified Refurbished programme.

This does not mean that a product refurbished by another company is necessarily worse. It simply means that it should not be described as Apple Certified Refurbished unless it belongs to Apple’s certified programme.

Which products does Apple sell as Certified Refurbished?

Availability changes continuously because it depends on the refurbished stock available at any given time.

Apple currently offers several product categories within its Certified Refurbished section, including:

• Mac.
• iPad.
• iPhone.
• Apple Watch.
• AirPods.
• Apple TV.
• HomePod.
• Selected accessories.

Inventory can vary, and specific models may appear or sell out quickly.

How much can you save with Apple Certified Refurbished?

Apple currently advertises savings of up to 15% on its Certified Refurbished products.

This does not mean that every model receives exactly that discount. The saving depends on the specific device available at the time.

It is therefore worth comparing the refurbished price with the equivalent new model before making a decision.

Is Apple Certified Refurbished worth it?

It can be particularly attractive for buyers who want to purchase directly within the Apple ecosystem without necessarily paying the price of a brand-new product.

Its main advantages include:

• Refurbishment process carried out by Apple.
• Full functional testing.
• Genuine Apple replacement parts when needed.
• One-year Apple limited warranty.
• Option to purchase eligible AppleCare coverage.
• Accessories and cables included.
• Brand-new packaging.
• Lower prices than certain equivalent new products.

What should you check before buying?

Even when a product is certified by Apple, choosing the right model is still important.

Before buying, check:

1. The exact model. Not every MacBook, iPad or iPhone within the same family belongs to the same generation.
2. The processor or chip. Particularly important for Mac and iPad.
3. Memory and storage. Make sure they are sufficient for your intended use.
4. The year or generation. This affects performance and expected software support.
5. Compatibility. Check that it works with the applications and accessories you need.
6. The price. Compare it with other new and refurbished alternatives.

Apple refurbished products and the circular economy

Refurbishment helps keep devices that have already been manufactured in use for longer.

Apple also presents its refurbished products as a way to give devices a new life and help reduce their overall environmental impact.

As with any refurbished product, the exact environmental impact depends on many factors, but extending the use of an existing device fits with the principles of reuse and the circular economy.

Buying refurbished Apple products from Segundamanopc

At Segundamanopc, you can find different refurbished Apple products, including MacBook, iMac, iPhone and iPad models.

When buying, it is important to check the individual product page to understand its origin, condition, warranty and applicable terms.

Not every refurbished Apple product necessarily has Apple Certified Refurbished certification, so this status should be clearly stated whenever it applies.

You can also check the current shipping, financing and return conditions before making your purchase.

Apple Certified Refurbished can be an attractive option for buyers looking for a refurbished device that has gone through Apple’s own process and certification. The key is still to choose the right model for your needs and always distinguish Apple’s official certification from other refurbished Apple products available on the market.
